BELLEVILLE — A widow alleges a building contractor failed to finish her home in a timely manner and overcharged her for building a new home.

Amy Popp filed a complaint on Sept. 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Master Craft Homes LLC.

According to the complaint, the defendant agreed to construct a new home for the plaintiff within four months for $205,000. After moving in, she discovered some aspects of the home still needed to be finished, repaired or replaced. She incurred storage fees of $2,000, hotel costs worth $600 and other expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant also overcharged her for materials and exceeded the contract price without authorization. The defendant placed a lien on her home for $147,743.85.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of not less than $50,000, plus punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs and all other relief that are proper and just. She is represented by Sandra J. Tatoian of Mathis, Marifian & Richter Ltd. in Edwardsville.
