Car accident 18

EDWARDSVILLE — A passenger is suing a motorist for allegedly causing a rear-end collision in Wood River.

Alissa Manes filed a complaint on Sept. 11 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Tera Betz, alleging the driver breached her duty to operate her vehicle with reasonable care and caution.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 5, 2016, she was a passenger in a vehicle being operated on 9th Street near its intersection with Woodland Drive in Wood River when the defendant struck the rear of the vehicle. She claims she suffered injuries to her back and neck.

The plaintiff holds Betz responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout for others lawfully using the road and failed to maintain control of her vehicle.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in her favor in an amount exceeding $50,000, plus costs of the suit. She is represented by Allan L. Napp of Schrempf, Kelly & Napp Ltd. in Alton.
