EDWARDSVILLE — A woman is suing her former employer and insurer for allegedly terminating her for filing a workers' compensation claim.

Jennifer Harrison filed a complaint on Sept. 17 in the Madison County Circuit Court against The Garden Kingdom Inc. and Erie Insurance, alleging they violated the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act.

According to the complaint she was injured during the course of his employment with Garden Kingdom in April 29, 2016, which prevented him form working her regular job and became eligible for temporary disability benefits. She claims she was wrongfully terminated on Dec. 8, 2016.

As a result, Harrison alleges she lost income and benefits and suffered mental and emotional pain.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly terminated her in retaliation for filing a workers' compensation claim.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus interest, costs, and any further relief as the court deems just and equitable. She is represented by D. Jeffrey Ezra of Ezra & Associates LLC in Collinsville.
