Former welder alleges asbestos-related lung cancer

BELLEVILLE — A former welder blames a host of manufacturing companies for his lung cancer.

Phillip Gibson and Sara Gibson filed a complaint on Sept. 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against tthe companies, including BP Products North America, DAP Products Inc. and URS Corporation.

According to the complaint, Phillip Gibson was exposed to asbestos while working as a laborer and welder. In October 2016, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. The plaintiffs allege the companies knew about the toxic effects of asbestos and failed to warn them.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
