BELLEVILLE — Several manufacturing companies face a lawsuit from a widow who alleges her husband was negligently exposed to asbestos.

Ella Parker, individually and as representative of the estate of Shawn Parker, filed a complaint on Aug. 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against AK Steel Corporation, Viking Pump Inc., Yuba Heat Transfer LLC and more than a dozen other companies.

According to the complaint, Shawn Parker was exposed to asbestos fibers during his long welding career. He learned about his lung cancer in 2015 and died two years later. The plaintiff alleges the defendants knew about the dangerous effects of asbestos exposure and did not warn the man.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and economic damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
