BENTON — A patient alleges a contrast agent used in MRIs caused serious health problems when he developed gadolinium retention.
Toby Welty of Edwards County filed a complaint on Aug. 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Bracco Diagnostic Inc. and McKesson Corporation, alleging they negligently introduced a dangerous product into the commerce stream.
According to the complaint, Welty was injected with the gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) MultiHance prior to receiving MRIs. As a result, he claims he developed gadolinium retention in his brain, heart, liver, kidney, bones, and skin.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $75,000. He is represented by Edward A. Wallace and Andrew D. Welker of Wexler Wallace LLP in Chicago and Todd A. Walburg of Cutter Law PC in Sacramento.
