BELLEVILLE — A truck mechanic blames several manufacturing companies for exposing him to asbestos.

William McDowell and Carolyn McDowell filed a complaint on June 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against more than a dozen defendants, including CRA Trailer Inc., Hercules LLC and Saint-Gobain Abrasives Inc.

According to the complaint, William inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers while working on trucks from 1963 to 2017. He was diagnosed with a form of lung cancer related to asbestos exposure in 2015, the complaint states. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for allegedly not warning about the dangers of asbestos and failing to find substitutes for products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates in Edwardsville.
