EDWARDSVILLE — A woman is accusing Alton Memorial Hospital and a surgeon of medical malpractice involving a gallbladder surgery.

Alicia Rushing, also known as Alicia Maldonado, filed a complaint on Aug. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dr. Pei Chang "David" Chung, BJC Medical Group of Illinois, BJC Healthcare and Alton Memorial Hospital.

According to the complaint, Chung removed Rushing's gallbladder using the "lap choli" procedure in September 2016. But Rushing claims the doctor did not properly perform the operation and caused permanent injuries. She also blames the doctor and medical center for not properly giving her post-operative care.

Rushing requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by Benjamin J. Sansone of Sansone Sumner & Lauber in Clayton.
