Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A former patient blames her doctor for failing to diagnose her breast cancer.

Carol Blankenship filed a complaint on July 30 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dr. Kevin Shady and Alton Memorial Hospital, alleging they did not properly read her mammogram.

According to the complaint, the doctor and hospital did not diagnose Blankenship's breast cancer after a mammogram in 2016. Blankenship claims she suffered pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement.

The complaint states Shady allegedly failed to identify a suspicious mass.

Blankenship seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $75,000, plus costs. She is represented by Thomas Q. Keefe III of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell in Belleville.
