BELLEVILLE — A Belleville woman injured at a concert at Belleville East High School is suing the school district.

Danielle Phiffer filed a complaint on July 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Belleville Township High School District 201, alleging the school district failed to maintain its property.

According to the complaint, Phiffer visited the school to attend a spring choral concert when her seat suddenly fell backwards. She sustained severe and permanent injuries to her back and other parts of the body, the complaint states.

Phiffer claims the school district did not properly secure the seat to the floor.

Phiffer requests a trial by jury and damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis Papa & Szewczck in Granite City.
