EDWARDSVILLE — Archer-Daniels-Midland Company and American River Transportation Company face a lawsuit after an engineer slipped on leaking hydraulic fluid on a boat.

Kevin Johnson filed the complaint on July 18 in Madison County Circuit Court against the boat owners, alleging violations of the Jones Act and general maritime law.

According to the complaint, Johnson, an assistant engineer, slipped while working on the Ginny Stone. Johnson claims the companies should have cleaned the leaking hydraulic fluid, which had seeped into the rudder room. Johnson says he suffered injuries to his back, tail bone and right foot.

Johnson seeks a jury trial and damages. He is represented by Bradley Lakin of SL Chapman in St. Louis.
