BELLEVILLE — A former aircraft mechanic blames a handful of companies for exposing him to asbestos and causing health problems.

John Johnson filed a complaint in St. Clair County Circuit Court against CBS Corporation, General Electric, John Crane Inc., Honeywell International, Union Carbide Corporation and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

According to the complaint, Johnson was exposed to asbestos fibers from products manufactured or installed by these companies at various times in his career between 1963 to 2011. Johnson was diagnosed with a form of lung cancer induced by inhaling asbestos in 2017, the complaint states.

Johnson claims the companies included asbestos fibers in their products after knowing about the toxic effects.

Johnson requests a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by Ethan A. Flint and Laci M. Whitley of Flint Law Firm in Edwardsville.
