BELLEVILLE – A former mechanic alleges he was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and blames the diagnosis on exposure to asbestos during his career.

Tab Brown and Cynthia Brown filed a complaint on June 12 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Borg-Warner Corp., Kelsey-Hayes Co., Maremont Corp., et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, Tab Brown worked as a mechanic from 1976 to 1993 at various locations in California, Indiana, Wisconsin and Arkansas. He alleges he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states that on or about June 29, 2017, he first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease.

The plaintiffs holds Borg-Warner Corp., Kelsey-Hayes Co., Maremont Corp. responsible because the defendants allegedly intentionally included asbestos fibers in their products when they knew that it had toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effect to human health and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages of no less than $50,000, plus costs and all further relief as the court may deem appropriate. They are represented by Ethan A. Flint and Laci M. Whitley of The Flint Law Firm LLC in Edwardsville.
