BELLEVILLE – A widow alleges her husband's death from lung cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos during his life.

Lucy Edmonson, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Bobby Edmonson, deceased filed a complaint on June 13 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Certain-Teed Corp., Ecodyne Corp., The Gorman Rupp Co., et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, at various times during Bobby Edmonson's life, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The suit states he was employed by Alcoa as a pump attendant from 1953 to 1995.

The suit states that on or about April 27, 2017, the decedent first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused. He died on July 1, 2017, the suit states.

The plaintiff holds Certain-Teed Corp., Ecodyne Corp., The Gorman Rupp Co., et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory and economic damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
