BELLEVILLE — A driver is suing his passenger for allegedly grabbing the steering wheel while he was driving, causing the vehicle to leave the road.

Edward Rappel filed a complaint on June 13 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Tammy Stout, alleging she negligently took control of the steering wheel without prior notice.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 20, he was injured when Stout grabbed the vehicle's steering wheel and caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Rappel claims he suffered injuries resulting in pain, disability, disfigurement, medical expenses and lost wages.

The plaintiff alleges Stout failed to keep the vehicle in the single and proper lane of travel.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs of court.

He is represented by Lanny Darr of Darr Law Offices Ltd. in Alton.
