BELLEVILLE — A couple is suing Metropolitan Life Insurance and a number of asbestos-related companies, alleging their negligence led to the wife's lung cancer.
Willie Mae Broadway and Grimes Broadway Jr. filed a complaint on June 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging they failed to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that at various times during Willie Mae Broadway's employment, she was exposed to or inhaled asbestos fibers emanating from products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. In March 2018, she first became aware that she had developed lung cancer.
In addition to their complaint against the asbestos-related companies, the couple alleges that Metropolitan Life Insurance and others conspired to provide misleading information regarding the negative health effects of asbestos exposure.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory and exemplary damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
