BELLEVILLE – A man last employed as a driller in a Louisiana oil field alleges he developed lung cancer as a result of exposure to asbestos.
Curtis Fontenot and Judie Fontenot filed a complaint on May 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against BP Products North America, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Sterling Fluid Systems USA LLC, et al. alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that at various times during Curtis Fontenot's career from 1980 to 2008, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. They allege that on or about June 22, 2017, he first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused.
The plaintiffs hold BP Products North America, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Sterling Fluid Systems USA LLC, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly intentionally included asbestos fibers in their products when they knew that it had toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effect to human health and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.
The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
