CBS Corporation, others accused of negligently exposing man to asbestos

Asbestos 05

BELLEVILLE — An estate representative is suing CBS Corporation, 3M Company and several other companies for alleged negligence.

Marilyn Filippi, special representative of the estate of William Filippi, filed a complaint on May 25 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court, alleging that the defendants failed to exercise caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times during William Filippi's life, he allegedly was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from products that the defendants allegedly manufactured, sold or installed.

In 2016, William Filippi allegedly found out that he had developed lung cancer due to coming into contact with asbestos fibers. He allegedly died in 2017. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly including asbestos fibers in their products even though they allegedly knew that they were toxic and for allegedly failing to adequately warn William Filippi about the dangers of working with or around products that contained asbestos.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and economic damages in an amount that exceeds $50,000. She is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
