EDWARDSVILLE — A pipefitter claims he was injured while working at a refinery in Madison County.
William Belleville filed a complaint May 24 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Safway Services LLC and Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery, alleging they failed to provide a safe place to work.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 19, he was employed by AECom working as a pipefitter at the Phillips refinery. While moving an air hose, he claims he tripped backward over scaffolding that he alleges was improperly constructed by Safway.
As a result, Belleville claims he sustained severe and permanent injuries to his right shoulder, causing him to be disabled and become liable for medical treatment expenses, the lawsuit states.
The plaintiff alleges Safway improperly placed the scaffold in the walkway, where it became a trip hazard, and Phillips failed to discover the unsafe placement of the scaffold.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $50,000, plus the costs of this lawsuit.
He is represented by Ronald S. Motil of Beatty Motil & Black in Glen Carbon.
