EDWARDSVILLE — A bus passenger is suing a motorist for allegedly causing a collision on Illinois Route 143.

Dora Roundtree filed a complaint on May 11 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Kenneth G. Pillman, alleging he breached his duty to exercise reasonable care while operating a motor vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 20, 2016, she was a passenger in a bus traveling southbound on Illinois Route 143 near its intersection with Illinois Route 3 when Pillman negligently caused his vehicle to collide with the bus.

Roundtree claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries that resulted in great pain and anguish, loss of income and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Pillman negligently drove at an excessive speed, failed to maintain careful lookout and failed to take evasive actions at the first appearance of danger.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this action.

She is represented by Doug Mendenhall of Smith Mendenhall, Selby & Cole in Alton.
