Passenger sues over rear-end collision

Car accident 35

EDWARDSVILLE — A passenger is suing a motorist for allegedly causing a rear-end collision on Troy Road.

Devannie Jones filed a complaint on May 18 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Lucas Clayton, alleging the motorist failed to maintain proper control of his vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 6, 2017, she was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ashley Cross. She claims the vehicle was traveling southbound on Troy Road when Clayton caused his vehicle to strike the rear of Cross' vehicle.

Jones claims she sustained injuries that resulted in pain and suffering, loss of normal life and medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Clayton followed Cross' vehicle more closely than was reasonable and failed to take evasive actions to avoid a collision.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages greater than $50,000, plus costs of this action.

She is represented by Kelly R. Phelps of Jelliffe, Doerge & Phelps in Harrisburg.
