EDWARDSVILLE — A passenger is suing a driver for allegedly crossing the center line into oncoming traffic.

Chianna Obernuefemann filed a complaint May 2 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against William R. Wilson Jr., alleging he failed to exercise due care and caution in operating a vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 11, 2017, she was injured when her vehicle was struck by the defendant's vehicle on Mascoutah Avenue in Shiloh Valley. The plaintiff claims Wilson crossed the center line and was driving in the wrong lane.

Obernuefemann claims she suffered severe and painful injuries to her neck and back, tissues, nerves and muscles.

The plaintiff alleges Wilson operated his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or other controlled substance and failed to keep proper control of his vehicle.

The plaintiff seeks a judgment against the defendant for damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of court.

She is represented by John T. Papa of Callis, Papa & Szewczyk PC in Granite City.
