Patient sues Glen Carbon dental office over alleged nerve damage

Medical malpractice 05

EDWARDSVILLE — A patient claims he suffered nerve damage after a tooth extraction and implantation at a Glen Carbon dental office.

Ronald Borth filed a complaint May 3 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Aspen Dental Management, Dr. Alex Wojtyna and Dr. Harold Bean, alleging they failed to exercise the degree of care, learning and skill required of a prudent dental care provider.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between Feb. 8, 2017, and May 17, 2017, he was under the care of the defendants for extraction and implantation. However, he claims he sustained nerve injuries that resulted in great pain, disability and embarrassment.

The plaintiff allegedly sought follow-up care from Bean, who he claims did not refer him to a specialist in a timely manner.

The plaintiff alleges Aspen Dental Management failed to provide a system for nerve-damage control and corrective surgical action. He also alleges Bean and Wojtyna failed to provide a referral to a neurologist or specialist.

The plaintiff requests a seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs.

He is represented by John J. Hopkins of Gori Julian & Associates PC in Alton.
