Shopper sues over trip, fall at Fairview Heights Goodwill

BELLEVILLE — A woman claims she was injured at a the Fairview Heights Goodwill store when she slipped on a clothes hanger on the floor.

Maria Aguayo filed a complaint April 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mers/Missouri Goodwill Industries, alleging it breached its duty to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 14, 2017, she was a customer at the defendants' Fairview Heights store. She claims that upon leaving the store, she slipped and fell on a clothes hanger that was left on the floor, causing injuries to her neck, back, head, body and limbs. 

As a result, she claims she became sick, lame, disordered and disabled. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to inspect the premises to remove the clothes hanger or to warn customers of the a dangerous condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs of court.
