Husband's cancer caused by asbestos exposure, alleges suit against Ameron and others

Asbestos 04

BELLEVILLE — A couple has filed a lawsuit claiming the husband's cancer was induced by asbestos exposure.

Michael D. Hill and Rose Hill filed a complaint April 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ameron International Corp., Cooper Industries LLC, Gould Pumps LLC and others alleging they failed to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that at times during Michael Hill's career as a welder and shop mechanic from 1970 to 2001, he was exposed to asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. On June 29, 2016, he found out he developed lung cancer and claims it is an asbestos-induced disease that was wrongfully caused. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they were allegedly negligent in including asbestos fibers in their products when substitutes were available and didn't provide adequate warnings and instructions about the dangers of working around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs seek compensatory and punitive damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
