BELLEVILLE — A widow is suing Petersen Health Care II Inc. d/b/a Swansea Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, a nursing home facility operator, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and death.
Mary Geoppo, as independent administrator of the estate of Terry Geoppo, deceased filed a complaint on April 17, in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Petersen Health Care II Inc. d/b/a Swansea Rehabilitation & Health Care Center alleging that the nursing home facility operator violated the Nursing Home Care Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that during Geoppo's residency at defendant's facility, he developed multiple pressure ulcers and infections that led to the above the knee amputations of his legs on Oct. 30, 2016. He died on Dec. 10, 2016, the suit says. The plaintiff holds Petersen Health Care II Inc. d/b/a Swansea Rehabilitation & Health Care Center responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide a safe environment, failed to adequately monitor decedent's physical condition and failed to protect him from neglect.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount exceeding $50,000, attorney fees and costs of suit. She is represented by Daniel C. Katzman of Katzman & Sugden LLC in Belleville.
