Motorist alleges driver ran stop sign

Car accident 08

EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims she was injured when another driver ran a stop sign.

Irene D. Barnes filed a complaint on April 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Reuben J. Patterson, Waeltz Construction & Rebuilding Inc. and Margaret Klotz-Waeltz, alleging Patterson breached his duty to operate a motor vehicle in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 10, 2016, she was driving a motor vehicle traveling southbound on Vandalia when Patterson caused the Ford pick-up owned by Waeltz Construction and Klotz-Waeltz to strike her vehicle.

As a result, Barnes claims she sustained injuries to her chest, knees, left shoulder, thoracic spine and upper cervical spine.

The plaintiff alleges Patterson negligently drove through a stop sign, failed to yield right of way and failed to maintain careful lookout.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in an amount in excess of $50,000 and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper.

She is represented by Scott E. Sherman of Law Office of Scott Sherman and Devin A. Sauer of Shapiro Sauer LLC in Clayton, Mo.
