Pedestrian allegedly hit while standing in center turn lane

BELLEVILLE — A pedestrian claims a pickup truck driver hit her while leaving a McDonald's as she was standing in the center turn lane.

Courtney Holman filed a complaint April 3 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Robert Sweet. alleging he failed to maintain proper control of the vehicle he was driving.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 23, 2017, she was standing in the center turn lane on North Illinois Avenue in Fairview Heights when Sweet, who was driving out of a McDonald's parking lot, struck her, knocking her to the ground. 

Holman claims she sustained contusions, sprains and strains of the soft tissues and incurred medical expenses of approximately $44,570. 

The plaintiff alleges Sweet failed to maintain a proper lookout and failed to stop or swerve to avoid hitting her.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of this action.
