Couple seeks damages in asbestos lawsuit against Goulds Pumps, others

Medical malpractice 02

BELLEVILLE — A number of companies have been named in a lawsuit alleging a man's cancer was caused by asbestos exposure.

Craig Wall and Ann Whigham filed a complaint March 27 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Cleaver-Brooks, Goulds Pumps LLC, Rust International Inc. and others alleging they breached their duties to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege during Wall's career, he was exposed to asbestos fibers emanating in certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. On Jan. 16, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and claims it is an asbestos-induced disease. As a result, he claims he has and will have to spend large amounts of money for medical care and treatment. The plaintiffs hold the defendants others responsible because they allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when substitutes were available and didn't give adequate warnings and instructions about the dangers of working around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
