Amchem Products, Buffalo Pumps, others named in asbestos lawsuit

Asbestos 11

BELLEVILLE — A lawsuit alleges a man developed cancer due to asbestos exposure during his career.

Deborah Praytor, individually and as special administrator of the estate of William Praytor, deceased, filed a complaint March 14 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Amchem Products Inc., Buffalo Pumps Inc., Spirax Sarco Inc. and others alleging they breached their duties to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at times during William Praytor's career from 1970 to 1995, he was exposed to asbestos fibers from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. On Aug. 14, 2015, he became aware he developed lung cancer, and the suit claims the disease was wrongfully caused. He died May 15, 2016. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly intentionally included asbestos fibers in their products when they knew the fibers had toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effects to humans health and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
