BELLEVILLE — A law enforcement officer alleges he was injured when an intoxicated driver side swiped his patrol car while he was stopped on the shoulder of the road.

Nicholas S. Mounts filed a complaint on March 15 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Marianne L. Hougland, alleging she breached her duty to operate an automobile in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 17, he had just conducted a traffic stop on the eastbound shoulder of Illinois Route 15 in New Athens when Hougland ran off the road and side swiped his patrol car.

As a result, Mounts claims he suffered injuries to various parts of his body that resulted in pain, disability, medical expenses and lost wages.

The plaintiff alleges Hougland negligently drove her vehicle while intoxicated, failed to keep careful lookout and failed to drive within a single lane of traffic.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs of court.

He is represented by Brad L. Badgley of Brad L. Badgley PC in Belleville.
