Man alleges asbestos in items used by Crane Co., Zurn Industries, others caused cancer

Asbestos 02

BELLEVILLE — A former laborer is suing a number of companies alleging their use of products containing asbestos caused cancer.

Norman Sullivan filed a complaint March 7 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Borg-Warner Morse TEC LLC, Crane Co., Zurn Industries LLC and others alleging they failed to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that at various times while working from 1965-2009, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. On Jan. 8, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, which is says was wrongfully caused, the complaint states. The plaintiff holds Borg-Warner Morse TEC, Crane, Zurn Industries and others responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory and punitive damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
