Driver accused of following too closely in Fairview Heights crash

Car accident 35

BELLEVILLE — A passenger is suing a driver for allegedly causing a rear-end collision in Fairview Heights.

Gregory Haynes filed a complaint March 14 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Jessica Butcher, alleging she failed to operate her vehicle in a prudent and careful manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 6, 2017, he was a passenger in a vehicle traveling north on North Illinois Street in Fairview Heights when the vehicle was rear-ended by Butcher.

As a result, Haynes claims he suffered injuries to his neck, back, shoulder and lumbar area as well as cervical tissues.

The plaintiff alleges Butcher failed to keep a proper lookout, followed the vehicle more closely than reasonable and failed to properly apply brakes to stop.

The plaintiff seeks a judgment against the defendant in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs of the lawsuit.

He is represented by Thomas C. Rich, Kristina D. Cooksey and Michelle M. Rich of Rich, Rich & Cooksey PC in Fairview Heights.
