EDWARDSVILLE — A tenant is suing a property owner after he fell off the stairs.

Terry Rigsby filed a complaint on March 14, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Richard Carter, alleging he failed to exercise due care in maintaining his property in a reasonable safe condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 8, 2017, he was injured when he fell off the stairs at the defendant's property.

As a result, Rigsby claims he suffered disability, loss of a normal life and substantial injuries and incurred medical expenses of approximately $20,000.

The plaintiff alleges Carter failed to provide a safe ingress and/or egress to his tenants and failed to repair the damaged steps despite the plaintiff's request to repair them.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of not less than $50,000, plus court costs.

He is represented by Ronald A. Roth of Roth Law Offices LLC in Granite City.
