Man claims feet were burned because Gateway Energy didn't maintain site

EDWARDSVILLE — A former safety watchman is suing processing plant operators after he allegedly severely burned his feet.

Thomas Dennis filed a complaint March 16 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Suncoke Technology and Development LLC and Gateway Energy and Coke Co. LLC, alleging they failed to provide a safe place to work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 26, 2011, he was performing his duties at the Gateway plant in Granite City when he sustained severe burns on both feet.

As a result, Dennis claims he suffered disability, lose wages and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to maintain their property in a reasonably safe condition and failed to warn the plaintiff of the hazardous conditions at the job site.

The plaintiff seeks damages of at least $50,000, plus costs of this suit.

He is represented by Jason R. Caraway of Caraway, Fisher & Broombaugh PC in Belleville.
