EDWARDSVILLE — A customer alleges she was injured when she slipped and fell on ice in a Kmart parking lot.

T' Keyiah J. Taylor filed a complaint March 12 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Kmart Corp. and Sears Holdings Management Corp., alleging they breached their duties to maintain their retail business in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 15, 2016, she was injured at a Kmart store when she slipped and fell in its parking lot, causing injuries.

Taylor claims she suffered permanent injuries to her back, arms, head and other parts of her body that resulted in lost wages, diminished earning capacity and medical expenses of more than $50,000.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide adequate lighting to the exterior of the building going the parking lot, negligently allowed water and ice to accumulate in the area and failed to warn customers of the unsafe condition.

The plaintiff seeks a judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs of court.

She is represented by attorney Thomas E. Hildebrand in Granite City.
