Nursing home resident alleges negligent care following surgery

Medical malpractice 08

EDWARDSVILLE — A nursing home resident alleges he suffered a groin infection because a post-surgical incision was not properly cleaned and monitored.

John A. Cagne filed a complaint on Feb. 28 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Meridian Village Association, doing business as Meridian Village Care Center, alleging it violated the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he suffered a groin infection following surgery. He was admitted to Barnes Jewish Hospital for groin reconstruction skin graft and treatment of wound vac.

As a result, Cagne claims he endured pain and suffering and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly clean and monitor his post-surgical incision and failed to notify his treating physician of any significant changes in his condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount in excess of $50,000, plus interest, costs and any other relief that is just and appropriate.

He is represented by Matthew R. Davis of Gallagher Davis LLP in St. Louis.
