Patient alleges vision loss from sinus surgery

Medical malpractice 05

BELLEVILLE – A patient alleges he has suffered a loss of vision after sinus surgery.

Roddy Finley and Jennifer Finley filed a complaint on Feb. 16 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Maher Younes MD and ENT & Sleep Medicine Associates LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 28, 2017, Roddy Finley underwent right side sinus surgery performed by the defendants. As a result of Younes' alleged negligent actions, the suit states Finley's right sinus and orbital structures, including the right ocular nerve, were damaged.

Finley alleges he suffered loss of vision, permanent pain, disfigurement and disability.

The plaintiffs allege the Younes failed to timely respond to breach of the lamina papyracea and negligently and carelessly failed to recognize or timely respond to penetration of surgical instruments into orbital structures.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $75,000, plus costs of court.

They are represented by Samantha S. Unsell of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville.
