Patient alleges physicians failed to perform correct treatment for arm, wrist fracture

Medical malpractice 07

EDWARDSVILLE – A woman alleges she had to undergo additional surgeries to her arm and wrist to correct injuries caused by two physicians with Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic.

Robbie L. Lewis filed a complaint on Feb. 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic PC and Alexandria Ruzicka PA-C and Bruce Vest Jr. MD, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff fell and was treated at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton in October 2016 for injuries to her arm and left wrist. The suit states she was referred to Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Clinic with a diagnosis of left distal radius fracture.

The suit states between Oct. 3, 2016 and Jan. 10, 2017, the plaintiff was under the care of the defendants for the fracture and Vest performed surgery on Oct. 5, 2016.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to recognize the loss of reduction of the distal radius fracture, failed to perform the correct surgical treatment and prematurely removed K wires without reasonable care.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs of court.

She is represented by Keith Short and Jack Daugherty of The Law Offices of Keith Short PC in Collinsville.
