Driver alleges federal employee ran red light in Murphysboro collision

BENTON – A Murphysboro woman is seeking more than $75,000 after a federal employee allegedly ran a red light and collided with her vehicle.

Saundra Popejoy filed a complaint on Jan. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Jacob Figge and the United States of America, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 24, 2016, she was operating her motor vehicle southbound on North 13th Street at its intersection with Walnut Street in Murphysboro. She claims a government-owned vehicle driven by Figge entered the intersection and struck her vehicle after running a red light. 

As a result, Popejoy alleges she sustained injuries.

The plaintiff alleges Figge carelessly entered the intersection when it was unsafe to do so.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants for an amount of more than $75,000.
