Couple accuses Ameron International, others of negligence in asbestos suit

Asbestos 12

BELLEVILLE – A man formerly employed as a construction manager alleges his lung cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos while on the job.

Marvin Sickels and Ruby Sickels filed a complaint on Jan. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ameron International Corp., Borg-Warner Morse TEC LLC, General Electric Co. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, at various times during plaintiff Marvin Sickels' work as a construction manager from 1955 to 2001, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. The plaintiffs allege that on or about Sept. 27, 2017, Marvin Sickels first became aware that he developed lung cancer, an asbestos-induced disease, and that the disease was wrongfully caused.

The plaintiffs hold Ameron International Corp., Borg-Warner Morse TEC LLC, General Electric Co., and others responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs seek compensatory damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville.
