EDWARDSVILLE – A Madison County triathlon athlete alleges she was injured in a skiing accident when another athlete stopped suddenly in her path and caused a collision.

Elizabeth Anne Stryker filed a complaint on Jan. 25 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Michael A. Kelly, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 7, 2016, she and Kelly were skiing with another group of skiers at Sundown Mountain Resort in Dubuque, Iowa, when Kelly stopped suddenly in her path, causing Stryker to collide with the defendant.

Stryker alleges she was knocked unconscious and suffered a fracture of the right fibula, a torn deltoid ligament at her right ankle and a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament at her right knee. The suit states she has incurred medical expenses of more than $69,000.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus costs of this action and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper.

She is represented by Wayne D. Skigen of Lucco, Brown, Threlkeld, & Dawson LLP in Edwardsville.
