Driver allegedly ran red light, causing Belleville collision

Car accident 37

BELLEVILLE – A St. Clair County couple is seeking damages from a driver who allegedly ran a red light and caused a collision in Belleville.

Jody Motes and Russell L. Motes filed a complaint on Jan. 11 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Erin Settles, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Feb. 2, 2016, Jody Motes was operating a motor vehicle northbound on South Highway Street at its intersection with East Washington in Belleville when Settles negligently disregarded the red light and collided with her vehicle.

Russell Motes alleges he suffered loss of consortium due to his wife's injuries.

The plaintiffs allege Settles failed to maintain a lookout for other vehicles on the road, failed to obey traffic control signals and failed to slow down or stop to avoid collision.

The plaintiffs seek damages in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs of this action and any further relief as the court may deem just and proper.

They are represented by Derek J. Siegel of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.
