Motorcyclist alleges driver ran stop sign

Car accident 43

EDWARDSVILLE — A motorcyclist alleges he was injured when a driver ran a stop sign and caused a crash.

Ryan J. Shelton filed a complaint on Jan. 17 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Reid L. Hendrickson, alleging he failed to operate a motor vehicle in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 30, 2017, he was operating a motorcycle at the intersection of Illinois Highway 157 and Illinois Highway 162 when the defendant, who was driving a Honda Accord, negligently drove through a stop sign and struck the motorcycle on the right side.

As a result, Shelton claims he sustained injuries to his right leg, ankle and foot and damages to his motorcycle. His injuries cased him to suffer extreme pain, mental anguish, disfigurement, loss wages and medical expenses, the suit states.

The plaintiff alleges Hendrickson failed to maintain careful lookout, failed to sound a warning of his approach and failed to reduce speed or stop to avoid striking his motor cycle.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant for both economic and non-economic damages, plus costs of court.

He is represented by David M. Duree of David M. Duree & Associates PC in O'Fallon.
