EDWARDSVILLE — An electrician is suing a power system operator for allegedly failing to verify the proper sequence to be used in turning off a circuit breaker, causing it to explode.

Shawn P. Allen filed a complaint on Jan. 17 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Steel Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 28, 2016, he sustained injuries when the defendant's 138 volt circuit breaker exploded into a fireball. He claims Alton Steel failed to use the correct step to turn off the circuit breaker's power and failed to provide sufficient warning of its intention to turn off its power.

As a result, Allen sustained serious injuries to various parts of his body, resulting in pain, permanent disability and disfigurement and was obligated to expend money for past and future medical expenses.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of this action.

He is represented by Brad L. Badgley of Brad L. Badgley PC in Belleville.
