Mother alleges daughter was injured during delivery

Medical malpractice 02

BELLEVILLE – A mother has filed suit against a physician and two medical facilities after her minor child was injured during delivery.

Callie Sommer, individually and as mother and next friend of Isabelle Sommer, a minor, filed a complaint on Jan. 9 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Bradley Tissier MD; Memorial Regional Health Services Inc., doing business as Memorial Hospital Belleville; and OB/Gyn Care LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 17, 2014, Callie Sommer delivered Isabelle Sommer under defendants' care. During the delivery, the suit states Isabelle Sommer suffered shoulder dystocia and was born with a right brachial plexus injury, injury to her right shoulder and right arm and flaccid right arm palsy.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to effectively utilize appropriate delivery techniques and failed to offer a cesarean section.

The plaintiff seeks judgement against defendants, jointly and severally for damages in a fair and reasonable amount of more than $50,000.

She is represented by Mark D. Prince of Prince Law Firm in Marion.
