BELLEVILLE – A man is seeking damages from an O'Fallon church after he was injured in a fall while performing maintenance work.
Michael Stewart filed a complaint on Jan. 2 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Faith United Baptist Church, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan 2. 2016, he was attempting to access the control box for the exterior neon lights at the defendant's premises. While climbing a ladder, the suit states he fell and fractured his left ankle.
The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to provide a ladder to prevent a fall and requested a disabled, 60-year-old man to access the control box without determining he could do so safely.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs of suit.
He is represented by George R. Ripplinger of Ripplinger & Zimmer LLC in Belleville.
