Patient alleges injuries after surgeries performed by Belleville podiatrist

Medical malpractice 02

BELLEVILLE – A patient alleges she sustained severe damage to her left foot and ankle following a surgery performed by a Belleville podiatrist.

Shanyra C. DeLaCruz-Cox filed a complaint on Dec. 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Victor L. Horsley, DPM and Victor L. Horsley, DPM LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff sought treatment from the defendants for left foot pain. Horsley then performed two surgeries in December 2015. Cox alleges she had significant ankle and foot pain after the surgery that did not improve, causing her to seek other opinions. The suit states another doctor determined in April 2017 that her pain was likely caused by an arthroesis screw, so she underwent surgery to correct the issue and repair other problems.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to use conservative measures to treat her foot pain and used improper surgical techniques.

The plaintiff seeks damages of no less than $50,000 plus costs of suit.

She is represented by Eric J. Carlson of Byron Carlson Petri & Kalb LLC in Edwardsville.
