Motorist sues over rear-end collision

Car accident 40

BELLEVILLE — A motorist is suing another driver for allegedly causing a rear-end collision on North Illinois Street.

Kurt Dressel filed a complaint on Dec. 20 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dana Gates, alleging she failed to maintain proper control of the motor vehicle she was driving.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec. 21, 2015, he was driving a 2015 Nissan Maxima northbound on North Illinois Street while Gates was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia. Dressel claims he was stopped at a red light near North Illinois Street's intersection with Longacre Drive and Ashland Avenue in Fairview Heights when Gates collided with the rear of his vehicle.

Dressel claims he sustained injuries both externally and internally that resulted in great pain, mental anguish and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges Gates failed to maintain a careful lookout and failed to reduce speed or stop to avoid the accident.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of this action.

He is represented by Don Cary Collins of Law Office of Don Cary Collins in Belleville.
