Motorist alleges driver was distracted in Swansea collision

Car accident 42

BELLEVILLE – A woman alleges a distracted driver caused a collision in Swansea.

Sharon Nesley-Haas filed a complaint on Dec. 20 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Elijah King and Charles A. King, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 27, 2017, she was driving her 2005 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on Frank Scott Parkway at its intersection with North Illinois Street in Swansea. She claims Elijah King carelessly attempted to turn left while the plaintiff's vehicle was approaching from the opposite direction and caused a collision. The suit states the vehicle Elijah King was driving was owned by Charles King.

She claims she sustained painful injuries that resulted in disability, disfigurement, medical expenses and loss of normal life.

The plaintiff alleges Elijah King failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to be attentive, failed to yield to the right of way, drove while distracted and failed to reduce speed to avoid collision.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs incurred for this action.

She is represented by Kevin Boyne in Belleville.
